KSUR Oldies
« on: 12:34:33 | 23 April, 2017 »
Tried searching for KSUR, KSURF and K-SURF with no luck. Wondering if this is in the database perhaps under a different name?

Judging from the answers to the FAQs on their website, it would appear that this station only streams in Flash format, which neither Reciva nor Frontier Silicon based internet radios can play, which explains its absence in both databases. You could try asking the station for a more compatible stream format, such as MP3, but seeing their reliance upon revenue-generating, location-targeted on-screen advertising, I doubt if they will want to do that.
Radios in use: Roberts Stream 93i, Sangean WFR-29C, Technisat 450 & 520, Revo Pixis RX, Hama DIT2010, IR110 & DIR3100.

It does work from their web page on a browser without Flash enabled (iOS in this case) so it may well be possible to find the underlying stream.

Now in the database - Reciva id 58386
Give it a day or so to flow through.

Hi Paul, I'm still getting, "Station Data Not Loaded" on my reciva based CC WiFi and a Grace IRDA 500.

I am getting the same on the TMA1 radio.

How odd: the stream URL used in the Reciva database (https://radios.reciva.com/station/58386) is http://provisioning.streamtheworld.com/pls/EXTRA_1.pls which does work if added to My Streams.

I changed the URL to the MP3 stream which was accepted by the Reciva stream test.

However my radios don't like the new MP3 and AAC streams that you provided. I tested with both a recent Avox Grand and an older Avox Petite. There is something strange with these streams (or maybe I cannot tune in because I am not in the US). Maybe a US based listener could try.

Both streams work on my Frontier-based radio (as "added stations") here in Germany, so they are not geo-blocked. Both show 48kbps, which isn't great. But maybe the lo-fi is intended to deliver the 'oldie' experience...

Searching KSUR via the menu on a Reciva with v257 firmware in the UK returns a single choice which rapidly alternates between 'Connecting' and 'Stream Ended'.

It's been fixed by Reciva.
