"EU hopes to abolish Internet geoblocking"
« on: 15:19:33 | 25 March, 2015 »
Deutsche Welle, in English: http://www.dw.de/eu-hopes-to-abolish-internet-geoblocking/a-18342062
TelTarif, in German: http://www.teltarif.de/geoblocking-eu-kommission-regelung-plan/news/59136.html

Well, jolly good luck to 'em, but I reckon when it comes to de-geo-blocking the BBC, they've got about as much chance as a snowball in a supernova.
Radios in use: Roberts Stream 93i, Sangean WFR-29C, Technisat 450 & 520, Revo Pixis RX, Hama DIT2010, IR110 & DIR3100.

I compplained abot geo-blocking to the Beeb years ago over the iPlayer - quoted the TV Without Frontiers directive.  They just said the internet is not TV, so clear off!

If internet is not TV, then why having to pay for a UK license fee if you don't own a TV set and only watch via the internet. Do a smell a double standard?

Would be good if they got rid of it, won't hold my breath though.

Even mobile phones are affected by geoblocking, for bootloader unlock with a Huawei phone you need to register an ID to get the unlock code against end of warranty. But european user can only open an european ID that is geoblocked for the unlock page.

Hope this mess will end together with media regional codes.
