Frontier Silicon-My Added Stations-Help
« on: 09:07:10 | 19 June, 2017 »
 Folks,

I'm an old man and this is the first time I've posted anywhere. I just purchased a Sangean WFT-1 internet radio tuner which I am pleased with as far as it goes. There is one major disappointment. There are a handful of stations which I enjoy that cannot be found on Frontier Silicon. These stations play perfectly on other devices and computer audio programs. When I enter them in my added stations, they will flash for a second on the tuner's screen then immediately the screen states, "cannot open selected media".

Will someone please tell me why this is, and what I can do about it? I would like very much to access these stations.

 Thank you for your assistance.

At the very least, you need to list the stations you are trying to play!

Hello Wolffson,

welcome to the forum!

If you could tell us the stations and their URL's that you are trying to add, I'll see if I can get anywhere with them on my Frontier radio.

It might also be helpful to know which firmware version your radio has. Go to System Settings, then Info. Under "SW version", you will find a long string beginning with "ir-mmi-FS2026-".

Also, which side of the Atlantic are you on?

FS-My Added Stations - Help

I'm located in Florida USA.

The requested SW version is:  ir-mmi-FS2026-0200-0119   V2.0.19.30706-6

The only station I really want to add is: Classic-Blues-Vintage - http://listen.radionomy.com/A-Better-Classic-Blues-Vintage-Station.  This is the very best Blues station I have ever found.
One other station that will not connect is AddictedToRadio – Blues - http://wms-15.streamsrus.com:11630.

I have attempted to locate a numeric URL for the first listed station to no avail.  I do not even remember how I originally came across it.  If you can tell me how to add this station to my internet radio tuner I would be extremely grateful.

1. The Blues Cove.

I added this to my "added stations" using "http://listen.radionomy.com/A-Better-Classic-Blues-Vintage-Station" and it work fine, streaming MP3 at 128kbps.

2. Addicted To Radio: Blues Classics

I added this to my "added stations" using "http://wms-15.streamsrus.com:11630". It also works fine, streaming AAC at 128kbps.

I'm assuming here that you have registered your radio at wifiradio-frontier.com, and added the stations with the exact URLs that you gave, and that your radio can "see" them in "My Added Stations". Since I can hear them here in Germany (with German adverts advertising German goods in German!), the stations are not geo-blocked.

From the SW version you gave, I can see that your radio is not a recent model. The "0200" tell me that it uses an older version of the Frontier Silicon Venice module (the current version is the 6.5, and that would show up as "0500" where you have "0200"). The software version is V2.0.19, which is quite old. I don't know if this is what is causing the problem; the first station, streaming in MP3, ought to work unless they're using some strange format, although the second station, using AAC, could cause a problem depending on what type of AAC they are using (my radio doesn't tell me that).

Have you tried asking your radio to look for a software update? It should be under "system settings". If there is an update available, that might help.

Dogmatix:
I am extremely grateful for your kind and well-informed responses to my problem.  I am registered with Frontier Silicone. The stations I cannot connect to do appear in my added stations and on my tuner screen, but will not connect. Any stations from Frontier's listed catalog connects perfectly.

It is most disappointing to hear that the "brand new" tuner that I just received is outdated. I have checked this unit several times for updates to the software. The tuner's screen states that I have the latest version. I purchase this unit from Amazon and I believe I am still able to return it without penalty.

As I mentioned earlier, I do like this tuner and want to replace - but with a current model. But how I will find a merchant with the latest models baffles me (how would they know?).

If there is anything else to try please let me know. Let me thank you again for sharing your expertise with me. If I am able to resolve this dilemma I will report back, although this may take some time.

Sincerely,
Wolffson

Wolffson,

I know that there are not as many Frontier-based models available in the USA (Frontier Silicon is a British company) as here in Europe. For example, Sangean offer a more recent tuner-type model in Europe, the WFT-3 (http://www.sangean.eu/products/internet-radios/wft-3.html) but it is not listed on their US site. Another interesting European model is the Hama DIT2010 (https://de.hama.com/00054833/hama-dit2010mbt-digital-hi-fi-tuner-internet-radio-dab+-fm-app-control). Hama also do a compact version (https://de.hama.com/00054841/hama-dit1000mbt-hybrid-tuner-internet-radio-dab+-fm-app-multiroom-bluetooth). All these radios also offer DAB (Digital Audio Broadcasting), which is the European version of "HD Radio"; the two are not compatible, which may be one reason why these radios are not offered in the USA.

I am still a bit baffled why the MP3 station won't play on your unit, though.

Sorry I can't help you any further with those stations!

I added those two URLs to the 'My Streams' section of my account at radios.reciva.com.  Both play without problem here in the UK on a Reciva based unit with the 'legacy enhanced' firmware.  So nothing especially demanding in the way of codecs required.

I am also in the UK & both URLs play on my FS based Roberts Stream 83i.
The radio is around 6 years old & firmware is reported as FS2026-0200-0048 V2.2.15EX21499-v1.18.
