Non-Reciva radio devices & squeezebox
« on: 16:20:51 | 14 February, 2015 »
I just wanted to remind any users of non-Reciva radios that, if their radios are upnp enabled, there may be a way of converting them to squeezebox devices using the squeeze2upnp software.  Free your radio from the tyranny of the manufacturer!

I have a Freecom MusicPal (knobs off & ethernet connection only). It seems that Freecom has freed itself of the tyranny of MusicPal. I'm not sure of  the advantage of converting to Squeezebox nor if it could be done.

Minimize LMS and the radios are no longer found as players.

Reinstalled LMS and reran squeezebox2upnp.  LMS shows radios as "players" and radios show LMS as a media server, but none of the LMS plugins for live content show up on the radios.

Reinstalled LMS and reran squeezebox2upnp.  LMS shows radios as "players" and radios show LMS as a media server, but none of the LMS plugins for live content show up on the radios.

First - go into LMS plugins - switch off the Dnla/upnp plugin - restart the LMS

Second - you have to drive the player from the LMS gui.  Select the radio as the current player (top right dropdown).   Then on left pane choose a menu item - eg. Radio - find a station - play.  It should playback on the radio.

Switched off the dlna/upnp plug in.  Restarted LMS.  Selected the Mondo as a "player."  Went to "radio" at the left pane of the LMS interface and chose something.  Nothing whatsoever plays on the radio.

Does the Mondo show 'Connecting ...'.      You have to set the menu on the radio to UPNP Players - or whatever the main menu is ...

Also:  can you post or paste the config.xml file here

The Mondo is set to "upnp servers." It does not show "connecting."  The radio is on, but as dead as your grand dad's cat.  I don't know how to save the terminal program.  It keeps scrolling with error messages.

type

save config.xml

at the terminal after it has run for a min or so

Also

you can start

squeeze2upnp -f radio.log

------------------
if you get a config.xml - paste it here.  I will then amend my vistron config and paste it for you to use.

I have tried to type save config.xml but the program never stops scrolling long enough to allow it.  If I had, how could I open it in a text file?  Thanks for your help, but I don't think I'll have a block of time to spend with this again until there's another snow storm.  I'm not sure why it's convenient to use a desktop to drive a radio when I could listen to the desktop in the first instance, if I wanted to.

Try this:

Run the “squeeze2upnp –i config.txt” from a command line

After less than 1 minute, the program exits

There should be a config.txt in the same directory

Paste that

If you get sq2upnp working, then you can control the 'player' from a smartphone/tablet
