Avox TMA-1 patch immunity?
« on: 01:12:40 | 30 June, 2016 »
Hello,

the Avox Company is gone, last firmware v266-a-133-a-590 comes in 2015 to the machine. So i decided to try sharpfin, hope to get a flac codec for the device. Problem is to patch the base into the radio, seconds later the radio respond: "problem with update, check network".

The patchserver on ubuntu starts well, if the builin dnsmasq is disabled by config.

Version: 0.7rc2

Please enter the IP address of your real DNS server:
192.168.1.1
Please enter the URL of the patchfile (e.g. http://server.com/patchfile.tar) :
sharpfin-base_0.3.patch
webserver: waiting for connections ...
dnssever: waiting for connections ...
dnsserver: 192.168.1.53: lookup www.reciva.com .... OK
webserver: 192.168.1.53: fetching info: ... OK
dnsserver: 192.168.1.53: lookup www.chilloutradio.tk ... OK
dnsserver: 192.168.1.53: lookup www.reciva.com .... OK
webserver: 192.168.1.53: fetching info: ... OK

Here you can see the radio looking for firmware updates at www.reciva.com and the selected radio station. But on the radio no response for an available patch comes up.

Try again, switching to another station
dnsserver: 192.168.1.53: lookup radio.at ... OK
dnsserver: 192.168.1.53: lookup stats-incoming.reciva.com ... OK
dnsserver: 192.168.1.53: lookup www.fresh80s.de ... OK
dnsserver: 192.168.1.53: lookup www.radio.at ... OK

Now again trying firmware upgrade
dnsserver: 192.168.1.53: lookup www.reciva.com .... OK
webserver: 192.168.1.53: fetching info: ... OK
dnsserver: 192.168.1.53: lookup radio.at ... OK
dnsserver: 192.168.1.53: lookup www.radio.at ... OK

Is it possible that the radio is closed through last firmware?
How must the path for the update file given to the patchserver?

I have never heard of Sharpfin being successfully applied to any radio running a v266 or later firmware.

I believe dogmatix has tried it.

I believe Dogmatix has tried it.

I have indeed. I even tried putting a Sharpfinned Barracuda module into a TMA1, but that didn't work too well, either - the Sharpfinned module had the latest v257 firmware on it, which does not contain the drivers needed for the audio and display chips used, even though it had a config.txt file for the TMA. Conversely, the module from the TMA1 didn't work in an older radio because it didn't have the old drivers.

You can transfer the Sharpfin patch to some v265 or v266 radios (others refuse to receive it) but it just doesn't load when the radio starts. Whether this is by design or by accident on the part of Reciva, we never found out.

Radios in use: Roberts Stream 93i, Sangean WFR-29C, Technisat 450 & 520, Revo Pixis RX, Hama DIT2010, IR110 & DIR3100.
