WFMT Chicago, IL
« on: 08:49:19 | 20 September, 2017 »
Hello,

It seems like the WFMT station link in the Reciva database no longer works with my radio, a Sangean WFR-20, but this url: http://stream.wfmt.com/main-mp3 does work if added to My Streams, maybe the station should be updated to this new url in the database.

Thanks,

Francisco

There seems to be nothing wrong with WFMT (https://radios.reciva.com/station/12913), it has passed the Reciva stream test and I am listening to it now (via My Stations, 128 kbps AAC). You could try removing it from your My Stations and adding it again, or search for it on your radio.

Not sure what is peculiar about my Sangean WFR-20, but I can not get either of the streams available through the Reciva database to work. I did try to remove and and add it again to My Stations with no luck. Same with a radio search.

The other mp3 stream I provided works perfectly for me.

I tried WFMT on the Reciva Mondo.  Both the 128 kbps AAC+ stream and the 48 kbps mp3 streams buffered annoyingly.  The station played perfectly on the Mondo Plus, however.

Zeewier, which radio did you use? Is it possible that the stream in the database is in AAC+ V2, which older Reciva radios (like the Sangean WFR-20) cannot receive, but less old ones (like, say, an Avox Grande, or a Grace Mondo (non-Plus)) can? If so, perhaps the MP3 stream flg provided should be added to the database for 'legacy' radios (Frontier also uses the MP3 stream).

I was listening with the Avox TMA-1. The GraceRemote iOS app reports that there are two streams, a 128k AAC+ stream (128k AAC on the radio's display) and a 48k MP3 stream, and both are playable without buffering (again, I am listening to them as I speak). The app does not specify which AAC+ version is streaming, but if it is V2 then that might explain the problem with the WFR-20.

Nice station btw!

Edit: the two streams used by Reciva are http://www.wfmt.com/wp-content/themes/wfmt/live/wfmtstream.pls and http://www.wfmt.com/wp-content/themes/wfmt/live/wfmtmp3stream.pls

It seems like someone already fixed WFMT mp3 stream in the Reciva database, with one that works with my old faithful WFR-20 purchased December 2007, thanks.

I believe Dogmatix was correct about the inability of the old Reciva based WFR-20 to play some AAC+ streams, that is a fact, it doesn't play some of them. The reality is, that it at least still plays many AAC/AAC+ streams, contrary to my other FS based Sangeans, that play none. At the moment, it's still a great internet radio that plays most available streams, and with a much better web interface.

That's odd; I've not had any problems with AAC stream on my FS radios. Can you give me an example of an AAC stream which your FS radios won't play? And does that affect all of them, or all but your WFT-3?

OK, I stand corrected, indeed only my old FS based WFR-1s don't play any AAC streams, both my WFT-27Cs and the new WFT-3 play everything. The AAC+ stream that zeewier provided above for WFMT (extracted from the Reciva database), that one I can not play with anything. Frontier makes it hard to find these AAC streams, I don't see any AAC streams at all in their database.

As an example of what the WFR-1 can not play, I'll provide the BBC Radio 3 stream: http://open.live.bbc.co.uk/mediaselector/5/select/version/2.0/mediaset/http-icy-aac-lc-a/format/pls/vpid/bbc_radio_three.pls My old Reciva based Sangean WFR-20 plays it with no problem.

I'll provide my radios firmware versions on your other Frontier firmware thread.

Just discovered this thread: http://iradioforum.net/forum/index.php?topic=2379.0

For future reference, it's important to link this thread to this other one and to mention that this AAC+ stream: http://stream.wfmt.com/main is the one that works with newer radios, Reciva or Frontier.

Dogmatix, thanks a lot for all this info. This station is really worth listening in AAC+.

Working fine here. As an external database maintainer I cannot add this stream to the Reciva entry for WFMT (https://radios.reciva.com/station/12913) since it contains multiple streams, but hopefully my contact at Reciva/Qualcomm (who is monitoring this forum) will pick this up.
