Radio Hauraki on Reciva
« on: 11:56:39 | 19 July, 2018 »
I've been listening to Radio Hauraki for sometime now on my Reciva internet radio, however, the stream has now stopped working. I have this link: http://ais-nzme.streamguys1.com/nz_009_aac that works on my netbook, and in my account on the Reciva website, but not on the radio itself.

Any ideas of why this has occurred and whether there is a workround?

The stream used by Reciva is http://radionetwork-iheart-ice.streamguys1.com/hkihr.aac
According to Reciva it has passed the stream test, but I cannot get it to play here in the UK. Maybe the station is only available in the USA.

I went to http://www.hauraki.co.nz/listen/ and tried playing, but only managed after I got a NZ IP address. So the station appears to be geo-blocked (only available to NZ listeners).

If it's Geoblocked why then can I get it on my laptop at http://ais-nzme.streamguys1.com/nz_009_aac
Or is it only Geoblocked with Reciva? Strange thing is it plays on the Reciva website, so I put that into my streams, but it won't work on the Reciva radio I have.

I had this issue a couple or so years back and a change of url notified in the Reciva database cured it.

Reciva don't do geoblocking, they only use a streaming URL provided by the station. If the station decides to restrict the stream to certain geographical locations, then there is nothing that Reciva can do. The stream on the Hauraki website is definitely geolocked since it only worked for me (I am in the UK) after switching to a NZ IP address.

Anyway, I changed the stream URL in https://radios.reciva.com/station/8286 to the one you provided, let's see what happens (it may take a day or so before the change shows up in search results).

I too am in the UK, but if it was geolocked, then why does the link I provided work?

Anyway many thanks for adding the link, we'll see how it goes, in the meantime I've emailed Reciva about the issue.

Some stations offer different stream depending on your location (the BBC springs to mind). It is conceivable that Radio Hauraki has one stream that only works for NZ listeners, and another stream intended for a worldwide audience.
