NOAA Weather Radio
« on: 22:34:10 | 01 October, 2011 »
Recently a user wanted a NOAA station which was on the database but offline. I noticed that many NOAA URLs were not working. During the last few weeks I have added/updated about 70 NOAA weather stations. My reference is http://www.wunderground.com/wxradio but there are still some stations more on the database.
If you are interested search for NOAA or look in the reference list which is sorted by US states.

It must be a job of work to straighten out the NOAA channels.  I've only checked out some of the local ones:  the Toledo, Ohio channel gives a much nicer forecast for Galveston, Texas.  The Sandusky, Ohio channel gives the weather for Savannah, Georgia.  Mansfield, Ohio brings up Linville, North Carolina.

Did you listen to them on air? I could not find any of these stations on the Reciva database or on the reference list http://www.wunderground.com/wxradio.

But - of course - it may occur that there are failures in the association. When I updated the database I used the list entries and the stream titles (if any).

I used the Reciva iRadio iPod application.  I think must be some sort of association error.  The Toledo, Ohio station, for example, is WXL51 162.50, but the app plays the Galveston, TX station KHB40 162.550.  I don't know how accurate the wunderground link is for these stations.  The "official" link that gives the station information is:  http://www.nws.noaa.gov/nwr/listcov.htm  It also covers weatherradio canada.  Unfortunately, it just refers back to the wunderground link

I think that the proper URL for Toledo, Ohio is http://www.erh.noaa.gov/cle/mp3/CLESAFNW1.mp3  At least it plays successfully under "my streams."

I think the assocation problem occured in the iRadio app. On the database at this time there is no entry neither for NOAA Toledo nor for WXK51. I think your app uses an old list. Please try to reboot it.

In general there are two types of stations. The stations provided by wunderground play a continious endless stream of a repeated loop. Only a few stations play a forecast only as an audio file (like you give for Toledo).

I will add Toledo soon. Feel free to supply more - but it is too much effort for me to check each individual station.

EDIT: I tried to edit Toledo. My edit tool says that is already on the database but the search with status "ALL" and the search for WXL51 on my radio do not supply any entry. Very strange. I have to report it to Reciva.

It is very strange.  I re-booted the iRadio app as you suggested and got the same list I had previously, showing the incorrect Toledo listing and the other stations that you said did not show up in the Reciva database.  I don't understand how we could be looking at different lists.
