Has the Beeb actually just shut down its mp3 feeds?

Nope - R1, R2, R3, R4, R4X, R5L all working here at 128kbps MP3, no buffering, no drop-outs.
Radios in use: Roberts Stream 93i & SB1 (×2), Revo Pixis RX, Hama DIT2100, IR110 & DIR3500, Technisat 520. No smart speakers, no voice-control gadgets.

Incidentally, I asked on a BBC blog when we would next hear from the Audio Factory, and got this reply from Product Manager Federico Benedetto:

"In the next month or so we'll publish a new blog post with an update on what has been happening since the launch of Audio Factory. Hopefully that will address at least some of your concerns." (http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/internet/entries/4d747541-8ecf-48a7-b13e-b4ddf8ffa99e)

So keep your eyes peeled - but going on past performance, I should be surprised if any of my 'concerns' get fully and factually addressed, and astonished if they get resolved.

Ohio is back to being magical.  All BBC mp3 national channels now playing, except BBC 4 LW that is playing the "rights restrictions" loop.

FWIW, I think I was the listener in Texas who was screaming a while back.  The way I got to the BBC was through Pure Radio, who seem to have connections in the UK with the folks who actually push the buttons.

Pure has an unique arrangement with the providers of the BBC's streams, which as you may or may not know, is not the BBC.

Unfortunately, this facility doesn't seem to be extended to anyone else.

Pure remains the only manufacturer which is in a position to use the BBC's proposed new streaming codecs when the mp3 streams eventually disappear.

Some people may say this is sharp practice from an organisation which is paid for by virtually everyone in the UK.

So Pure's "connections" will make quite a few people here fume, I'm sure, since they have spent a huge amount of time and effort trying to establish those connections themselves, but been ignored by the powers that be at the Beeb.

I'll just get back to fuming.

Sonos have the live hls streams working - they hint at closer integration with the Beeb over listen again streams.

The Beeb have now implemented DASH alongside HLS for listen again.
