Found this in The Daily Mirror:

https://www.mirror.co.uk/tech/bbc-pulls-live-radio-services-18926206

Only refers to the UK and says "that TuneIn continues to be a "valued partner" outside the UK."

Apparently, it's not...

Also works on google,  i.e., if I say,  "ok Google, play BBC 3" to my google home mini,  it plays successfully.  Also, BBC podcasts play, too, in the sense that if I say "hey Google, play the In Our Time podcast," Google responds, "ok, playing the most recent installment  . . . " after which Melvyn Bragg starts talking about Nero, or something.

I mostly listen to BBC-4 & 4-extra via Tunein (on Echo(s) & FireTV App) and via stream on my Grace Mondo. I used to listen to BBC 5-Live too, but that's been "unavailable" for so long that I've quit trying. I would gladly pay for a subscription if it included all the BBC stations for a reasonable yearly price. I hope they don't pull the plug, but I realize my US tax dollars aren't doing them any good...

You should be able to get BBC Radio5Live on Echo/Alexa from the US.

Some content does get blocked for rights reasons, like Premiership commentaries, F1, Wimbledon, some golf, etc. Otherwise, it works pretty well.
